Remote Wi-Fi control
The DR22WL creates its own Wi-Fi network making it accessible to your Android or iOS smartphone. The range is around 20m, giving it a scope well beyond conventional infra-red. Audio from the unit can also be streamed via Wi-Fi to check the recording. Plug headphones into your smartphone and listen to a feed from the recorder at near real-time. Recordings can also be wirelessly uploaded to your smartphone or laptop and then published via SoundCloud to Facebook and Twitter (you’ll need an internet connection).
Control via free app
Use the free Tascam DR Control app on your Android or iOS device and you’ll have comprehensive control of your recorder. The app allows recording to start and stop and can even adjust input levels. Full timer and level metres are also displayed on your phone, helping you closely monitor the recording.
Quality microphones
Key to the quality of any recorder is the ability of the microphones. With a pair of adjustable condenser microphones, the Tascam DR-22WL captures undistorted sound up to 120dB – loud enough to capture live concerts. The microphones are also set in a true X-Y arrangement, which captures the stereo field in phase-alignment for perfect sound staging during playback. A separate 3.5mm mic input lets you plug in your choice of mic, if you prefer.
Record onto microSD card
Featuring a card slot that accepts microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards, you can record up to 128GB (SDXC card). Balancing sound quality with storage space you can choose between recording in MP3 or WAV files, with the latter capable of recording in ‘better than CD’ 96 kHz/24-bit resolution.
Superior sound quality
In addition to recording at 96/24, the DR22WL features other sound enhancements. For low noise performance, the mic gain circuit is independent from the ADC (Analogue to Digital Convertor). A premium quality Cirrus Logic CS42L52 24-bit codec is used, combining great performance with low power use for longer battery life. Both built-in mics and external inputs pass through this low-noise audio input circuit, for superior sound, whatever the source.
Advanced recording features
The Tascam DR-22WL gives a range of recording modes to ensure you get exactly the right one at the time. Select between EASY, LOUD, MUSIC, INSTRUMENT, INTERVIEW, MANUAL, OVERDUB or PLAY FUNCTION to get quick and easy recording optimisation at the click of a switch.
Multiple playback options
The DR22WL has several modes to loop a section of playback – perfect for learning new music. In addition to the built-in 3.5mm headphone socket there’s a small monitor speaker, while variable speed control lets you playback the recording at between 0.5 to 2.0 speed, without changing the pitch.
Multi power sources
Powered by two AA batteries, the DR-22ML gives a battery life of up to 17.5 hours when recording at standard quality. Alternatively, there’s an optional mains pack available, or you can power the recorder via a USB bus from your PC link.
